The Great British Summer Book Tag

Monday 20 July 2015
Hey guys! Today I'm here with an awesome tag that was created by Gill over at The Happy Reader! You can check out her blog here and I suggest you go follow her on Twitter too, link here! So The Great British Summer  Book Tag is supposed to celebrate the craziness of the British summertime, because in reality you guys up North where I live you get about two days of sunshine a year! That is my summer, and you think I'm joking... It's currently raining where I live, in the middle of July. Somehow I don't think wellies, sunglasses and a parasol go well together. Ah well, on with the tag!

Q1. You've been offered a weeks holiday, staying in a 5 star hotel and being pampered to within and inch of your life on a hot tropical island, all expenses paid! (assuming this is your thing) However, in return you have to give up one of your precious books! And give it up forever, no second copy! What book could you just NOT give up for this great opportunity?

A: This is an easy one for me! As much as I hate to follow the cliche it has to be Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone by J.K. Rowling. This book means so much to me and my childhood that I could not ever part with it. It also reminds me of the strong bond I have with my mother because she used to spend hours on a night time reading it to me over and over until I eventually fall asleep. The best thing is, she enjoyed it as much as I did so story time lasted forever!

Q2. It's one of those rare genuine summer days we have here and you're sitting comfortably on a sun lounger in the garden, its almost 30 degrees in the shade! You have your feet in a bowl of iced water and a deliciously cool drink in your hand. What book would you want to be reading right at this moment?

A: If I'm lounging then I definitely need a book thats not going to need that much attention paid to it. I'd chose a book that is easy to read, fast paced and one that I adored. Something that doesn't take too much energy to read but still conjures all of the feelings, you know?  For me, that would have to be the novella 'Nick and Charlie' by Alice Oseman. I read that recently and absolutely fell in love with it. I loved Nick and Charlie's relationship in Solitaire, Alice's debut, but I definitely needed more so this novella was perfect for that! It was very emotionally gripping! Perfect for when you want to lay back doing nothing!

Q3. Its the UK, so the summer isn't always sunny, bright and warm. What book that you weren't especially fond of would make a great umbrella to protect you from those sudden downpours/thunder/lightning/floods we often have?

A: I hate to admit this because this book was actually a review book that I got sent by the publisher, but it has to be Chopstix by A.T. Raydan! Oh goodness that book, I couldn't even get past the first 33 pages! For a YA book with a 18 year old main character, it felt like it was written for younger than middle grade. It was just that bad. I would definitely use that book to  shelter me from the downpour!

Q4. Its a warm, sultry night and you're by yourself on the beach with friends who are all paired off in couples sitting round a campfire chatting and eating overcooked sausages. What book character do you wish you could snuggle up to?

A: This is such a tricky one! There are so many kick ass female characters who I could chose! One that would like to snuggle though, that's difficult! I think I'd have to go with Lila Bard from A Darker Shade of Magic? Purely for the fact that although she's a bit wary of others, I think she would have some great adventure stories to tell, and snuggling up with her and just listening to them would be awesome.

Q5: One of those rare heatwave hot days of summer has caused the roads to melt, the internet to crash and hoards of mutant, zombie porcupines have taken over your town, as they do! What author would give you the best advice to get out of this sticky situation before you are caught and turned into one yourself?

A: I think I'd have to go with Julie Kagawa, purely because recently I've seen her give some amazing writing advice over Twitter and she always seem to be really helpful and friendly. If you didn't already know Julie wrote the Talon Saga and theres lots of situations in those books where the main characters need to get out of trouble, so I think she would be extremely helpful in this scenario! You shall not get me today mutant zombie porcupines!

So there you have it! The Great British Summer Book Tag! Similarly to Gill I am going to tag some people to complete this tag. The following people don't have to do this tag, but it would be nice if you did! I tag the following people:

Sally @thedarkdictator
Holly @the_arts_shelf
Maisie @ThemaisieAllen
Michelle @bookclubforum
Sofia @SofiaSTRF

Tag me in your responses so I can read the answers to your questions! Have fun!
